Friday Feed: 7 Ways to Boost your Energy at Work!
1. Raise the Bar:
Add an energy bar to your on-the-go morning routine for pep you can feel, all day! If you skip morning mealtime, your body stores energy reserves for important things…like breathing and brain function, rather than spending them. The “spending” is also known as your metabolism–the driving force behind your energy levels. Try this easy morning meal within 20 minutes of waking to boost your energy all throughout the day!
1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Honey
2 Cups Rolled Instant Oats
3/4 Cup Dried Cranberries
2 Tbsp Cacao Powder or Chocolate Protein Powder
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Coconut Flakes
1/4 Cup Flaxseed
1/2 Cup Sunflower Seeds
Step 1: In a saucepan, combine the peanut butter and honey until blended and smooth.
Step 2: Remove the saucepan from the stove. Stir in the oats, cranberries, cacao, coconut flakes, flaxseed and sunflower seeds.
Step 3: Pour into a cookie sheet or cupcake pan, freeze for an hour. Cut into bars and return to the fridge.
Exercise increases circulation to your extremities, oxygenates your blood and increases blood flow to your brain. Now, if you’re like us, you need your brain to function at racehorse speed (most of the time) at work– so here’s how to make that happen with exercise: - take a brisk 15 minute walk to lunch -depending on your office setting, do 50 jumping jacks once every hour - hit the gym for a 30 minute workout on your lunch break - take a 2 mile jog on your lunch break
3. Go Au Natural:
There’s nothing natural about the annoying flicker of fluorescent lights, the dull hum of computer monitors, the shrill “DING” of email notifications and the chilly dankness of a 20 year old A/C unit. Let’s face it– most office settings are less-than-energizing. That’s why you should step outside to breathe real air, experience real light (you know–the SUN!), and hear real sounds (like birds, wind, and other humans. The good stuff.) Take 2-3 out-of-the-office-box breaks per day and your energy levels will soar!
4. Master the mini-meal:
3 meals-a-day ain’t the right way, guys. Eating three large, distantly-spaced meals causes glucose levels (aka the energy your brain runs on) to spike and then crash, leaving you feelin’ deflated and tired. To prevent this, keep a steady stream of energy pumpin’ into your body via snacks and mini-meals, and healthy beverages (water, low sugar juices and teas).

5. Gettin’ Sniffy with It:
Wake up your workday with aromatherapy! Whether it’s a citrus soy candle or a dab of peppermint essential oil on your temples, indulging in some scent will revive your day! Our fave go-to’s? All-natural scented lotion and aromatic lip balm that give us an instant punch-in-the-nose, right when we need it!
6. Just LOL:
Here at the POUND HQ, when 3pm hits, we all get a little loopy. And the thing that happens next is magical. From some distant corner in the office, a chuckle erupts. It usually begins with a funny noise, a creepy face or just with Dom (who is know for her hilarity). From there, it catches wind and spreads all across the office, until we are all busting-a-gut laughing and smiling so much our faces ache. After that, we all feel a renewed sense of connection to each other and a strengthened feeling of meaning in our work. This gives us energy to move forward– and beyond!
