A POUND ICON is a master trainer, as well as an ambassador of our brand, our beliefs, and our mission. They travel the world as an extension of POUND to elevate our united beat, one POUND Pro at a time. They are the educators, the rebels, the humble and electric. With different life and career experiences, personalities and uniqueness, they are the true representation of our BRAND. Let them inspire you, let them MOVE you.
Joyce Wong lives in New York where she was first introduced to POUND. As she puts it: “it was love at first strike.” Not only was it the most fun she ever had at the gym, but the immediate audio feedback of whether she was doing the exercises correctly was what really hooked her. Joyce is known for her love of yoga and biomechanics, and she encourages her students to become aware of their bodies and needs, to search for balance in their lives, and to have fun by working smarter, not harder.
If you could choose your own rockstar nickname, what would it be and why?
Oh man, this is a hard question!! Is it a cop-out to say that I think I already have a rockstar name? It’s one syllable, unique for someone my age, it fits my happy demeanor and since it’s a name you usually find in older generations, it also fits the the fact that my idea of a rockstar night is knitting, listening to NPR, and going to bed early!
What activity do you do that makes you feel most like yourself?
I love anything where I get to connect my mind and my body, especially if there’s good music involved: dancing, yoga, POUND, any kind of movement! I also like hiking, swimming, running, being outdoors, the sunshine, the ocean, reading a good book, arts and crafts, cooking a yummy meal, hanging out with my husband or my girlfriends. I feel MOST like myself when everything is BALANCED and IN TUNE: work, rest, exercise, meditation, time with people, time for myself, eating well yet accompanying it with a glass of wine and some dessert!
Whom do you secretly admire?
I can’t tell you! It’s a secret!! First of all, there are an incredible number of women broke the social mold to get us to where we are today and also a great many more who are currently fighting tirelessly for human and women’s rights: Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Malala Yousafzai… there are so many strong and brave women to admire openly, loudly, and proudly! Now, if I had to pick a single person that I *secretly* admire, it would probably be Emma Watson. Not only did she get to be Hermione Granger, but she is also a UN Goodwill Ambassador and she launched HeForShe, the campaign to involve more men in the journey towards gender equality. She could have used her fame and fortune for a variety of things and instead she chose to use it to draw attention to an important cause that is close to her heart. I admire people who stand up for what is right!
How do you show love for others?
The best way to show love for others is to just take care of them! Be mindful of their needs, their likes and dislikes, truly listen when they are speaking, and just be a good friend. Personally, I love to give people cards on their birthdays. I really enjoy picking out a card that I think they’ll find amusing and I like writing inside the card. Maybe it’s just another facet of my old soul, but in this digital-everything age, a hand-written message inside a tangible card is so delightfully personal.
What superpower would you most like to have?
To FLY!!!! I love going to new places and meeting new people and trying new things, but the actual time at the airport and on a plane are not very fun. I’m also a total home-body in the sense that my physical home is my haven so if I could instantaneously fly to a new place for the day and then fly home and sleep in my own bed, that would be ideal. Plus, the view you’d get with this superpower would be just incredible!
